6 TIPS TO HELP YOUR BABY SLEEP DURING TEETHING STAGE

Teething is an inevitable part of your little one’s development that begins around the first 6 months of a baby's life and can last up to 3 years of age. This long and tedious process can cause babies to be very restless and is often worse during naps and bedtime, when they don't have as many distractions. So what to do in these cases? We leave you with 6 tricks that will help your baby sleep through teething.

Symptoms of tooth eruption

As babies start the teething process, and before any teeth are yet visible, there are some common symptoms that help identify that your baby's teeth are starting to grow:

  1. Irritability and pain, causing them to cry regularly

  2. Need to bite and chew to soothe the pain

  3. Excessive drooling

  4. Inflammation and tenderness of the gums

  5. Refusal of food

  6. Sleeping problems

It is important to know that teething does NOT cause fever or diarrhea. If your baby has these symptoms, you can consult a doctor.

Tips for pain relief and sleep

  1. Teethers

When babies begin to bring everything to their mouths, it’s time to give them something that is truly meant for it: a teether toy. Ideally, baby teethers should have many textures and be made of safe, flexible materials such as natural rubber. Avoid gel-filled teethers or any plastic objects that could break.

In addition, this type of baby toys has many other benefits, such as promoting sensory play, stimulating the baby's senses...

  1. Gum massage

When your baby's gums are irritated and sore, try applying light pressure to them in the form of a massage. Simply rub your finger along the gums when your baby is lying down, always making sure you wash your hands first.

  1. Soft and cold foods

Offer your baby cold soft foods such as applesauce, yogurt, cold pieces of fruit or vegetables... The cold will help deflate the area and provide a sense of relief.

  1. Clean the face

Excess salivation generated during teething causes discomfort for babies, and wet faces or clothes, can contribute to rashes, which increases discomfort at night. Always keep your baby's face dry and use bibs that don't allow drool to soak the clothes underneath.

  1. Establish sleep routines

Having a sleep routine will help your baby adjust to his or her schedule. As much as possible, stick to your usual sleeping routine and try to keep your little one as comfortable as possible so they can fall asleep.

  1. Soothing baths

While they may not help soothe sore gums, bathing your baby before bedtime will help him relax and fall asleep more easily. Look for no-holes bath toys so your baby can still chew safely even in the bathtub.

Help your little ones to improve this stage and avoid possible changes in their sleep cycle!
